Ryder’s Top Technician Recognition Program (Top Tech)
Top Tech is an annual program designed to identify, recognize, and reward Ryder’s top performing technicians. Eligible participants for the award are selected from Ryder’s team of more than 5,000 U.S. and Canadian-based technicians and are measured on technical training qualifications, outstanding customer service performance, and quality workmanship. After advancing through three increasingly demanding rounds of challenging written and hands-on tests, seven finalists compete for the top honors at the Top Tech Competition.
The final competition consists of 10 rigorous, hands-on skill tests including vehicle electronics, preventive maintenance, and air conditioning. The title of “Top Tech,” along with a cash prize, is awarded to the first place winner. All seven finalists receive cash prizes for their exemplary performance. Each year’s top seven finalists go on to represent Team Ryder at the TMC SuperTech National Technician Skills Competition, where they compete against the industry’s best technicians.
Meet Addison
Addison is a skilled Ryder technician who keeps our world-class fleet of trucks up and running. Before Ryder, his career took him all over, from the maintenance department at a public transportation business to tech positions at several construction companies. After working at so many places, Addison told us he’s happy to be here.
“There’s a lot of flexibility. Top-notch training is always guaranteed. Shops are good and safe…It’s just a very good place to grow as a technician.”
Addison feels he’s been growing from the beginning because he’s constantly getting the training he needs to improve.
“You have a wide variety of equipment to choose…There’s a lot of information to digest, and it’s always changing, but Ryder does a good job of keeping you up to date with the latest manual [and] factory training…We have a very vast knowledge compared to other companies and people in the diesel industry…They’re generally pushing you to obtain your training.”
And after years of hard work and training, he’s worked his way up to become one of our top technicians. Now, he’s constantly honing the skills he needs to master his specialty.
“You have so many different options. If you want to do building maintenance, you can do that. If you want to do body repairs, you could do that. If you want to focus on Caterpillar or Mercedes engines, you can specialize in that…As long as you apply yourself, the tools are all there. The sky’s the limit here.”
Addison recently celebrated his fifth anniversary with the company. We’re hoping it’s his first of many.
